Teams

Once Groups are in place (typically configured at the Module level), Teams must be created (at the Instance level). A Group is really nothing more than a container for people that can be assigned to teams; it defines or categorizes what kind of teams will be needed. Once Teams have been created, you can then assign people to those Teams.

 

From the Instance homepage, click “People” … “Manage” … “Groups.”

 

Creating a new Team

Click the name of the group then click “Manage Teams.” This will take you to the Team Configuration page, where you can create teams, assign individuals to teams and sort teams as needed.

  • To create teams, click “Add Team”, type a name for the new team and click “Save”
  • To edit an existing team, click the pencil icon by that Team.
  • To remove a team, click the X icon by that Team.

 

Creating random Teams & Team assignments

From the Team Configuration page, click “Sort Teams.”

  • Enter the number of teams you with to sort individuals into.
  • The team sorter will randomly assign individuals to the number teams specified.

 

Once the sorter has created a set of teams, you can apply rules for the team sorter. Applying a rule can randomly re-sort the teams based on values of a selected variable (score, descriptive or team type). For example, you may want the strongest runners to be evenly distributed throughout the teams. You can also apply multiple rules to the team sorter.

  • Select “Apply Rule”
  • Select a type of rule: Score, Descriptive or Team Type, and click “Next”
    • Select “ascending” for scores where higher values are good, or “descending” for scores where lower values (e.g. times) are better
  • Click “Apply”.
  • To remove a rule, click the X icon.

 

Configuring Positions

Additionally, you may wish to designate a “Captain” or “Leader” of a Team for an event. You can do so by clicking the name of the group and then  “Configure Positions”. Type the name of the position, click “Add Position” and “Save”.

 

Assigning Individuals to Teams

From the Team Configuration page, select the appropriate individual(s) and click “Assign”…

  • If desired, you can add a new Team by entering a Team name and clicking “Add new”. It will then appear in the Team list. Select the Team, and click “Next”.
  • (Optional) If Positions have been configured, they will be available for assignment in a drop down.
  • Click “Assign”.

 

To remove (unassign) an individual from team, click the X icon by that person.

 

Note: An individual can belong to one Team per Group, so as you assign/unassign people to Teams, the list of Individuals that can be assigned will reflect that availability.
