Variable Manager – Importing a Variable

GideonSoft strongly recommends using a logical and consistent naming convention for variables. See Data-Variable Naming Convention for a full explanation.

Begin by going to Data… Variable Manager, and click the green “New Variable” button.

Manually importing one at a time from another Instance

  • From the green “New Variable” drop down, select “Import Score Variable”.
  • Select a source Module and Instance from the drop down.
  • On the “Variable to import” drop down, you can…
    • Select from the list, or
    • Type the first few letters of the variable you wish to import. The list of matching variables in that Instance will be displayed.
    • Select the variable to import.
  • By default, the same name will be used, but you can modify it if desired in the “New Variable Name” field.
  • By default, the “Open variable details after opening” checkbox is selected. You can deselect if preferred.

Importing from a spreadsheet

Advanced and Experienced Users: GideonSoft offers the ability to import one or more transformed, calculated or raw score variables via a spreadsheet. This is an advanced option that requires close attention to detail and is not recommended to users who have not had experience manually creating variables in GideonSoft.

    • From the green “New Variable” drop down, select “Import variable spreadsheet”.
    • Click “Download the variable spreadsheet” for an Excel file with dropdowns to help prepare the proper format.
    • Configure the spreadsheet and save to your local computer when done.
    • Click “Upload spreadsheet”, or drag and drop your file onto the designated area.
    • Some notes regarding the use of this spreadsheet:
      •  If the variable name already exists in GideonSoft, it will be overwritten.
      • This means all transformation filters or calculation indicators will be replaced with the ones from this spreadsheet. If you only wish to add a new filter to an existing variable, you must also include the filters already configured.
    • Variables must adhere to the standard hierarchical naming convention used by the GideonSoft Whole Person model of human performance.
