Survey Design 1: Overview

With appropriate permissions, anyone can design surveys in GideonSoft. This is possible via a drag and drop style interface, with many options available. Surveys can be assigned with the ability to allow or restrict access based on Roles and Groups, and Surveys can be scheduled so they will only be available when they are needed.

To enter Survey Design mode…

• From the Module homepage, go to “Surveys” (at the Module level, you are automatically in Design mode). 
• From the Instance homepage, go to “Surveys” and click the blue “Design” button. 

Existing Surveys are displayed. Published survey status is displayed in green; Draft survey display status in gray (and the icon towards the left will be faded).

Note: Survey administrators (i.e. Proctors, Data Proctors and Overseers) will only see surveys that have been published (none in draft status). If a survey does not have overlay settings applied, the administrator will only be able to preview the survey and adjust the scheduling options.

You can filter and sort the list and customize the display:

• Type in the Search field (toward the top right).
• Arrange and resize columns (drag and drop).
• Use the ‘Column Chooser’ icon at the top of the table to choose which columns to see. The only required column to show is Name, which is on the left in a fixed format. This allows you to scroll horizontally and still see the survey name.
• Use the ‘Toggle column search’ icon, and search/filter by column.
• Use the ‘Toggle grouping panel’ icon, and then drag and drop one or more column headers to group surveys in the list.

Actions Available

Once the list is filtered as desired, several actions are available:

• To edit a survey, either click on the survey name or choose Edit from the action menu. (See Survey Design: Overlays). 
• To view sessions for a survey, click on the Sessions column (must not be 0). 
• On the far right of each row, the following actions are available (depending on your permissions), by clicking the 3 dots: 
  • Edit … (See Survey Design: Overlays ).
  • Preview … Opens a preview in a new tab. 
  • Copy … You’ll be prompted for the new name and whether to rename variables.
  • Rename
  • Settings … Allows you to enable/disable a survey, as well as adjust the scheduling options
  • Delete … You’ll be prompted to confirm.
