Creating an Instance

Creating a new Instance will copy all the software configurations (surveys, behavioral observation events, spreadsheets, reports, etc), but no data, from your custom Module into an Instance. The new Instance (class, season, etc) serves as a framework to begin collecting new data.

  • From the Module homepage, select the “Settings” button.
  • Select the big green “Create a new instance” button. You will be prompted to provide:
    • Name: Enter the name of the Instance here (ex. Fall 2017)
    • Options: This selection determines how to set statistics (data used to compare Instance data against, such as average and standard deviation) for the new Instance…
      • Import statistics from the template (default)” – Statistics data from the template (or Module) references all statistical data that has been moved into the template. (see Instance Settings for more about closing an Instance).
      • Import statistics from another instance” – you are required to select which instance to import from. Use this option if the new Instance you’re creating should reference statistical data from another Instance that is different/unique from other Instances in some important way (e.g. typical classes are 30 days in length, but this new class will be 20 days; you would want to reference statistics from another 20-day long class instead of 30-day class statistics)
    • (Optional) Do not inherit Module template content … If you wish to create a completely empty instance, with nothing configured.
  • Click “Create”.

When the instance is created, the inprocessing page will be displayed, where you can begin adding People. Roles configured in the Module will now be available when importing people (if no Roles were configured at the Module, they will need to be configured in the new Instance before importing people).
