Managing Objectives

From the Instance home page, click the blue Objectives tile.

Creating an Objective

Before creating an Objective:

  • You must have at least Overseer permission set (common practice may be for a coach or supervisor to develop Objectives, and request the Overseer to actually configure the Objective in GideonSoft).
  • To make a variable available for use in an objective, it must be set to ‘Include in Objectives’ in Variable Manager. (See Variable Manager (Manually Creating a Score Variable)).

To manage Objectives, on the instance home page, click the Objectives tile towards the top (next to the Events, Surveys and Reports tiles). From the Objectives page click “New Objective”.

  • Provide a name
  • Provide a description (optional, and only visible to you)
  • Select one or more Role(s) from the “Who do you want assigned to this objective?” drop down
  • Select a variable from the “What would you like to measure?” drop down (if no variables are available, contact the GideonSoft admin. This depends on advanced settings in variable configuration).
  • Then provide values for the following:
    • Target … (required) if the person meets or exceeds this value, they met the objective and will show as green
    • Warning … (optional) if the person meets or exceeds this value, but does not meets the Target value, they see a Warning
    • Failed … (optional) if the person meets or exceeds this value, but does not meet the Warning value, they did not failed to meet the objective
    • See “Setting different standards/thresholds for individuals” below to set per-person values
  • Direction … ’Lower number is better’ is selected by default (good for run times), but you can change to ‘Higher number is better’
  • Select a Target Date … when should this be achieved
  • Click “Create Objective” to save.

Setting different standards/thresholds for individuals

You may wish to modify the threshold for one or more individuals. For example, an individual may be recovering from an injury and have different score targets. You can do this via Spreadsheets, using the Score Threshold item.

See Designing Spreadsheets.

Deleting an Objective

To remove an Objective, start from the Objectives page. Navigate to the target Objective and click the Objective name to view the Objective’s information, click the “Delete Objective” button at the lower left and confirm.

Viewing Progress towards an Objective

At any time, you can view the progress of everyone that has the objective assigned to them.

  • The ‘Show values?’ checkbox toggles the data values display for each person on and off…
    • Green … met the objective (“target”)
    • Gray … above the warning threshold, but has not quite met the objective
    • Yellow … above the failed threshold, but below the warning threshold (“suspect”)
    • Red … failed to meet the objective (“criminal”)
  • There is a View Details icon next to each person; move your pointer over it to see the Target, Warning and Failed values for this person. (Note: if custom thresholds have been set via Spreadsheets, these values will be adjusted accordingly.)

Note: Individuals can see an objective assigned to them, along with progress towards that objective, by navigating to the Profile page and “My Goals”.

Completing an Objective

Once an Objective is complete, or the deadline to complete it has passed, you can mark it as complete by checking the “Objective Complete” box and confirming. It will no longer be available for assigned people to view or work on it.

You can also make a completed Objective available again by clicking on the green check and confirming you wish to restart it.
