Recording Observations

  1. To record a behavioral observation on the GideonSoft Website, click the Observations tab near the top of the left menu.
  2. Behavioral Observations require three things:
    • Where did you observe the behavior?
    • Who are you observing?
    • What did you observe? This is the behavior (or action). The action observation type is different from a behavior. It enables an instructor to quickly capture the number of times an action occurred (e.g. how many pushups a candidate does; or, how many pitches were thrown), and allows a running total of an action to be tallied.
  3. You can either click on the blue Who button to add a person (or multiple people), or you can click on the Where button to add the location/event where the observation took place. The order does not matter.
    • You can click the lock icon by the event, to “lock” in the event and save a step when observing the same event for a long period of time.
    • You can click the lock icon by the target(s), to “lock” in the target(s), and save a step when observing the same target(s) for a long period of time.
    • You can lock both the event and target(s), and save a couple steps if observing the same target(s) in a single event.
  4. Once you have indicated the Where portion of the observation, you will then be able to add the behavior (or action).
    • This list is divided into …
      • Positive behaviors, accessed by clicking on the green plus sign,
      • Neutral behaviors, accessed by clicking on the gray dot,
      • Negative behaviors, accessed by clicking on the red minus sign, and
      • Actions, accessed by clicking on the blue plus sign.
    • Once you are in the behaviors menu, you can quickly toggle between behaviors.
    • While in the behaviors menu, you can also add comments to further describe your observation.
      • Note that comments are not always available for every behavior depending on how your administrator set up the behavior.
    • If selecting an action, you can enter a number (e.g. for the number of repetitions), and enter a comment, if space is made available.
  5. By default the system records the current timestamp. In the bottom left corner of the page, you have the option to change the time stamp, in case you’re entering an observation made at a previous time/date.
  6. Once you have filled out the required fields (Where, Who, the behavior/action), simply click the Post button near the bottom-right of the screen. The entire process should take, on average, 10 seconds.

Notifications

At the bottom-right of the screen, you will find the push notification feature. This lets you notify the subject that you’ve observed this behavior. Simply toggle the option on and confirm you want to notify the person or people that are currently listed in the Who section. Once you post the observation, the observed will be notified.
