While designing Surveys, Observations, Reports or Spreadsheets, you may not be able to find the score variable you need to add or reference. Look for the ‘Create New Variable’ button, which will help quickly and easily create a new score for immediate use.

At any point, you can click ‘Advanced (Variable Manager)’ in the top right of the ‘Create New Variable’ window to go to the full featured variable editor.

Start by selecting one or more sources or inputs by expanding a category and checking a variable. A summary of your selections is displayed below for reference.

• Surveys … Published/inactive surveys are in red; draft surveys are gray.
• Observations … There are options to select any positive or any negative, from selected or from any event.
• Feedback … There are options for ‘Any Feedback from any rule’ or feedback from rules previously made.
• 3rd Party Import
• Scores … You can search, check multiple scores, or reset.

Note: A score can be created referencing either one or more evaluation variables or one or more score variables, but not a mix of both. Since Surveys, Observations, Feedback, and 3rd Party Imports are all evaluation variable types, you will notice the Score category become unavailable, and vice versa. See Types of Data for more information.

Method

Select one of the functions from the list:

• Aggregate Functions:
  • Average (of all ratings)
  • Average of Other User’s Evaluations (excludes self ratings)
  • Average of User’s Own Evaluations
  • Count (if no ratings were received, no value will be generated)
  • Count – All Ratings (if no ratings were received, the value will be zero)
  • Standard Deviation (of all ratings)
  • Sum (of all ratings)
• Filter Functions
  • Minimum (identifies the lowest evaluation value recorded)
  • Maximum (identifies the highest evaluation value recorded)
  • Most Recent (identifies the most recent evaluation value recorded)

Finish

A summary of your selections is displayed. Click ‘Preview output’ to get an idea what the resulting data will look like.

• Label … This is what will be displayed on the Survey, Report, etc.
• Name … A name is automatically generated for you, but you can customize it using the Variable Name Generator if preferred.
• Description (optional) … This can help provide additional context for yourself or others at a later time.
• Click ‘Create and Use’.
