Instance Settings – Backing Up

You may need to transfer data to/from external systems or move data from one installation of GideonSoft to another (e.g. in a standalone system or multiple closed networks). At the Instance level, the Roster Transport and Data Transport utilities are designed to accomplish these tasks.

Roster Transport

The Roster Transport tool is a means of copying people exactly as they are from one computer to another. It is used in standalone environments ONLY, and is not meant for using across Instances or versions of the software.

If you simply want to import people from another Instance, you would just use Import People. Within an Instance, Roster Transport lets you export their roles, groups, and statuses so you don’t have to input all of this information on each computer.

From the Instance People page, select Manage, and Roster Transport.

To import a roster:

  • Click “Import Roster”.
  • Either drag and drop your .gd file to the “Upload a list of people from a roster file (*.gd)” box, or click on the box to open a dialog to locate the file to import.
  • Click “Import Roster”.

To export a roster:

  • Click “Export roster”.
  • The roster will export to a .gd file.

Data Transport

Data Transport allows you to export all of the data and configurations within GideonSoft from one computer to another computer, and includes the following data options:

  • Person descriptives
  • Scores
  • 360 relationships
  • Evaluations
    • All Evaluations
    • Feedback
    • Land navigation
    • Behavioral observations
    • Surveys

This feature is most often used for standalone environments. For this to work, both computers must have the same version of GideonSoft installed on them.

From the Instance Data page, click Tools, and Data Transport.

To export data:

  • Select “Export all” to export everything, or “Export data from the following” to specify a subset of data.
  • Click “Export”.

To import data:

  • Click “Import”.
  • Drag and drop your Data Transport file on the designated area (or click on the area to locate the file to upload).
  • Click “Import”.
  • The results of the import will be displayed.
