Report Item: Histogram

In Custom Person and Custom Group reports, the Histogram item displays a diagram consisting of rectangles whose area is proportional to the frequency of a variable and whose width is equal to the class interval. In GideonSoft, this is achieved by plotting a single score across multiple Instances within the same Module.

Histogram Options

  • Use people from the following roles … Select one or more.
  • Use people with the following statuses … Select one or more.
  • Include People … Default is on.
  • Include Objects … Default is off.
  • Include Role Objects … Default is off.
  • Include Team Objects … Default is off.
  • Score Variable To Plot … This is the name of the score that will be used to plot the chart. This option is used to find the data in the current instance as well as the historical instances. The filter will be based on the score name.
  • Default Historical Selection … Options include Current Class, 3 instances back, 5 instances back and all instances.
  • Show Historical Selection … Default is on. This allows the viewer to change the historical selection when viewing the report.
  • Show Data Point Count … When toggled on, this will display a label above the bars that has the count of data points for the bin.
  • Show Instance Average … Default is off.
  • Target Value Tooltip Label … When used on Custom Person reports, the selected target will be plotted on the chart. The report will create “bins” of data that represent the ranges of the data. The score from the report target will fall into one of the bins (bars). That bin will be colored differently and a tooltip will contain the target’s score. The default value is “[Name]’s value”. [Name] will be replaced with the identifier or full name.
  • Target Bin Color … When a target value exists, this color will be used to color the bin it falls into.
  • Text to display when no data exists (optional)

  • Chart Sub-Title (optional)
  • Allow Export (optional)
  • Bar Color … The color for all the bars.
  • Bin Calculation Mode … In a histogram, each bar represents a certain range for example 1-10, 11- 20, and so on. GideonSoft calls this graphical representation of ranges ‘bins’. The following contains the methods used to calculate the bins.
    • Auto … The bins/ranges will be calculated using a standard histogram formula based off Sturge’s rule (https://www.statology.org/sturges-rule/ )
    • Bin Width … This mode allows the report designer to set the width of the bin. The width is the range of each bar. Keep in mind:
      • Increasing the bin width often decreases the number of total bins in the histogram and leads to fatter and fewer bins.
      • Decrea sing the bin width often increases the number of total bins in the histogram and leads to narrower and more bins.
    • Bin Count … Adjusts the number of bins. In this case, you set the number of bins (bars) that you need on the graph, and GideonSoft calculates the bin size itself.
  • Bin Label Format … Choose how you want the bins to be labeled on the X-Axis. The default is [Min, Max], where the Min is the lower part of the range and Max is the upper part. Options include:
    • [Min – Max]
    • [Min, Max]
    • Min
    • Max
